What does SAP stand for in regards to production management in a company?
SAP is a name of a large software corporation (HQ in Germany) but operates worldwide. They are a leader in database management systems for offices – the enterprise level, and one of their biggest applications is for production management – such as ERP (enterprise resource planning) – which can tie together data for materials resources, production planning, inventory, work in progress, order tracking, etc. A lot of companies use this so you will hear these magic letters. Alternatively, you will also hear Oracle, CA (Computer Associates), PeopleSoft, and Siebel which also supply the same type of enterprise software as SAP. Note that the last two companies (PeopleSoft and Siebel) have been acquired by Oracle.
