What does response time mean?

A surge will cause the surge protection components to change state from a high impedance device to a low impedance path. The time it takes for the transition is the RESPONSE time. Obviously this is a critical part of the performance of a surge protector and it will manifest itself in the measured Let-thru-voltage of the complete surge protector. However, the response time of an individual component used is not indicative of the response time of the complete surge protector. For instance, a SAD component can have a peco-second response time, but when installed in a circuit with other SAD’s in parallel or in series in order to increase surge current capacity, then the response time of the individual component is increased by the configuration in the complete surge protector. Specifying a response time for a surge protector is foolish as it cannot be verified. It is far more important to specify the Let-thru-voltage with a standard test pulse, current and voltage.

For Hardware Solutions, response time is the maximum time you should have to wait for the appropriate hardware support to be on-site for resolution once the hardware failure has been diagnosed by our technical support team. • For XchangeNow™ Coverage, the response time is shipment of the advanced replacement spare within 2 business days. • For Bronze Coverage, the response time is on-site break-fix support the next business day. • For Silver and Gold Coverage, the response time for on-site break-fix support is 4 hours. For Software/Firmware Solutions, response time refers to the time that telephone Technical Support will respond to a technical issue: • For XchangeNow Coverage, Bronze Coverage and Silver Coverage, telephone Technical Support is available to respond during business hours Monday thru Friday. • For Gold Coverage, Technical Support is available to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

In LoadStorm, the response time would be the amount of time taken for the “primary page” to fully download. So, it is the whole page but without any additional resources. The primary page is the html in most cases, but could be something else if there is an xml, pdf or some other file requested. This response is likely to be faster than observed by you in a browser because it does not include downloading external javascript, images, css and other files. Response time also does not include time for a browser to load and render the page and execute javascript. It is also important to note that LoadStorm’s servers probably have faster internet connections than most home and offices.
