What does Range do to monitor and protect air quality?
The Environmental Protection Agency sets standards, monitors the ambient air across the U.S., and has an active enforcement program to control air emissions from all sources, including the shale gas industry. Emissions may come from such sources as drilling rig engines, vehicular traffic and dust from unpaved roads. In fact, due to stringent government regulations as well as voluntary measures taken by producers, air pollution caused by oil and gas operations has significantly decreased over the past 20 years. One reason for this is horizontal drilling itself, which dramatically reduces the number of pad sites, wells and storage tanks needed, therefore decreasing surface disturbances, emissions during drilling and the impact of dust, noise and traffic. Our water recycling program significantly reduced water hauling traffic, as did the installation of remote well-site monitoring devices. One of our core principles is to encourage innovative thinking and to embrace technological improvem
