What does “probation” mean?
13) Probation means that the Council is watching the club carefully. This is because it is a new club and unproven or the club is in a weak position. The club may be de-recognized at any time by the Council if the club in question is caught breaking the rules. This is the time when clubs should be working on becoming aware of CSC policy and building membership. At the end of probabion, the club will be considered to see if they would survive (and preferably flourish) in which case they would become a real club.
The word probation derives from the Latin word probare, which means “to test.” In criminal courts, probation usually follows, or may be required instead of, jail time. At Cal Poly Pomona, it serves as an official warning that something you have done has required the University to pay special attention to your behavior lest that behavior be repeated. In effect, you are being “tested” to show that you have learned from your prior experience and will not repeat it. Your time at the University is conditional on your good behavior; pass the test and you’re welcome as a member of the community. If you fail the test, you will not be allowed to remain here.
The best way to answer this question is to show what is required to remain in good standing. You must earn a year-end average of 55% or better, and earn credit for at least 60% of the courses you have attempted. For example, a student who is registered for 30 credits (normal full load) and has an average of 55% or higher and earns 18 or more is in good standing. If you miss one of these requirements, you are on probation.
