What does pressure balance mean?
Pressure-balancing is the mechanism used to maintain a preset water temperature (mix ratio) even if the pressure in either the hot or cold water line changes. Pressure changes to cold water can occur when toilets are flushed, or when another faucet is turned on. Pressure changes to the hot water supply can occur if the dishwasher or washing machine is in use during the shower, or if another shower is turned on or off. The special pressure-balance mechanism senses pressure changes OF the water entering the valve, and immediately adjusts the mix of the outflow water to maintain the ratio of hot to cold water. Danze pressure-balance valves maintain your shower temperature within a range of 3 degrees Fahrenheit. If cold-water flow is interrupted during a shower, the pressure balance mechanism will shut off the flow to the showerhead to prevent the bather from being scalded.
