What Does Phrygian Mean?
The word Phrygian is an adjective which is defined as an inhabitant or native of Phrygia. As a proper noun, the word Phrygian is defined as a Thraco-Phrygian language. It is spoken by the ancient natives of Phrygia. It is now an extinct language and is preserved only in a few inscriptions that date back to the ancient civilisation of Phrygia. Phrygia is an ancient country. It is located in the western and central parts of Asia Minor. In the ancient times, Phrygia was a kingdom in the western and central part of the highlands of Anatolia. It was a part of the country which is now known as Turkey. The people of Phrygia began to settle in the area in about the year 1200 B.C. They established a kingdom in the eighth century B.C. Phrygia was invaded several times. The Phrygian language was in existence only until about the sixth century AD.
