What does PB stand for in baseball stats?
PB stands for Passed Ball. If a pitcher throws a ball which gets past the catcher and allows a runner to advance it is scored as an error. If there is no advance there is no error. If the ball hit the dirt before it got to the catcher it is scored as a Wild Pitch and the pitcher gets an error. If the ball gets to the catcher and the catcher lets it get by it’s a Passed Ball and the catcher gets the error. The official scorer has to use his discretion in deciding if the error should go to the pitcher or the catcher if the ball is very high or far outside. The scorer has to decide if the catcher should have stopped the ball even though it wasn’t a good pitch.
