What does “Pastured Poultry” mean?
Pastured poultry is a method of raising poultry on green, living pasture, outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Our animals range freely as natural sized flocks in large, open bottomed pens (to protect them from predators) that are moved at least twice daily to fresh plots of pasture. This ensures that there is always fresh green grass, clover, dandelions, and other greens, as well as crickets, grass hoppers, and other bugs beneath them. Another benefit is that unlike commercially grown ‘free range poultry’, our animals are not allowed back into their own fresh droppings which breaks the cycle of parasites naturally. Because of their small groupings and large pens, our birds are able to exercise, flap their wings, scratch around, and not be inhibited by a lack of space.
