What does Part P mean?
Part P is a government formed legislation designed to regulate the safe installation of electrical circuits within the domestic housing industry including privately owned and rental properties. It is aimed at providing a high standard of installation practice which not only requires knowledge and compliance of the IEE Wiring Regulations, but also of the Building Regulations. The regulations are Mandatory Standards must that be followed as part of the Law. They cover everything from initial design of the circuitry, to the correct installation of cables, taking into account everything from a hole size through a joist to sound proofing of light fittings. Extra care has to be taken within bathrooms and kitchens for example as these are deemed as Special locations.
