What does parfum mean in the list of ingredients?
The word ‘parfum’ in the list of ingredients indicates the presence of fragrance ingredients. This is the standard term according to INCI, the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. If the list of ingredients does not include the word ‘parfum’, that does not necessarily mean there are no fragrance ingredients: manufacturers may choose to list individual fragrance ingredients separately. In Europe, regulations require that certain fragrance ingredients that have been linked more frequently to allergies than others are always listed individually if they are used above a specified minimal concentration level. In this way, people who think they are sensitive to any of those ingredients can easily avoid them. We do not exceed this legal labelling requirement because it is impossible to make meaningful comparisons between products if they are not consistently labelled in a standard way.
