Packet write is a method whereby several write events are allowed within a single track. These packets are bounded by 7 blocks for run-in (4), run-out (2) and link (1). This method is best suited for recording small amounts of data. It allows the CD-R to act more like a backup device that the mass storage characteristics of disk at once and track at once methods of recording.
