What does “ozone” mean?
Ozone is formed by the chemical reaction of heat and sunlight on Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) at ground level. Intensified reactions are a summertime problem due to high temperatures, minimal wind, sunlight, vehicle exhaust, and other air pollution. The ozone season in Dallas is from May through October. Ozone can cause health problems depending on the length of exposure, frequency of exposure and the level of ozone concentrations. Information about steps citizens can take to lower ozone levels can be obtained by calling Air Pollution Control at (214) 948-4435.
