Our measurements of the scatter of hits on the face of a club shows that hits scatter in an elliptically shaped distribution. An optimum face outline shape is elliptical and tilted up at the toe to approximately match the hit pattern. This means that fewer of the more widely scattered hits are off the face or partly off the face (POF hits).
