What Does Optimum Face Curvature Mean?
Drivers normally have a toe-heel face curvature called “bulge” and usually have an up-down curvature called “roll”. These tend to bring the flight of the ball back toward the intended target for ball-club impacts which are off-center, not at the face center. Our face curvature is much more sophisticated. Our computer model allows us to calculate the best face curvature for each particular head design. It finds that the best shape is rather different from the simple bulge and roll. Typically, there is even a area of the face which is not curved at all. The new surface shape gives less scatter of stop points.
