What Does Olecranon Mean?
The word olecranon is a biological word. It has its origin in Greek language. It is taken from the word olekranon. This word has two parts: olene and kranion. The first part ‘olene’ means ‘elbow’ and the second part ‘kranion’ means skull or head. Olecranon is that part of the elbow bone which forms the pointed part of the elbow. It is projection that is located on the upper part of the Ulna. Ulna is that bone of the forearm that is placed parallel to the radius. Ulna along with radius bone is the forearm of our hands. It is a large thick and curved protuberance at the end of Ulna. Anything that is related to this olecranon or oelcranon process is referred to as olecranal. Humerus is the upper arm bone which extends from the shoulder to the elbow. Fossa is a depression in the bone. This process helps in the articulation of the forearm by articulating with the olecranon fossa of the Humerus.
