What does Oakland County mean by “wireless blanket”?
Many existing wireless implementations are point-to-point networks, meaning there is a device on a structure communicating with a device on a home or business. Point-to-point infrastructure can send wireless signals many miles, but it does not broadcast the signal in a way that it can be used to access the internet on the path between devices. A “wireless blanket” will provide access to the internet all over the county with the use of a device installed in a personal computer, laptop, PDA, or similar device.
