What does Nirah mean by ‘non-invasive research?
‘Non-invasive’ means without causing irreparable damage to the integrity of living tissues through any application of an unnatural procedure. Nirah will therefore only consider procedures which do not cause any animal any pain or/and any long-term damage; it will only engage in the ‘milking’ of venoms once it has been established that this does not harm the species involved. Nirah will respect its stewardship of the animals in its care at all times, so no procedure causing undue stress of pain will be acceptable. All procedures will be subject to intense ethical scrutiny.
