What does Mormon church teach about salvation and life after death?

Most ministers teach that heaven is like a golf course, garden, or harps and clouds, where people sing and pray and praise God for eternity, and that hell is like a never-ending fiery furnace where people are continually tormented and tortured. The LDS church has received a different understanding based on latter-day revelation, and that understanding fits well with the scriptures in the Bible. Hell or Sheol is the place where spirits go after the death of the body (Alma 40:11-14). Christ himself went there to preach to the spirits who had not received the gospel in their lives (1 Peter 3:18-20 1 Peter 4:6 John 5:25 D&C 138:57). If these spirits receive the gospel, they can be baptized by proxy (1Corinthians 15:29 D&C 127:5-10). Because of the atonement of Christ, all will be resurrected (1st Corinthians 15:20,21,22 Acts 24:15). There are three main divisions of heaven, which we call the Telestial, Terrestrial, and Celestial (1 Corinthians 15:40-42 D&C 76:70,81). The judgement will com

Depends on your definition of salvation… we believe differently than typical Christians. Most Christians view salvation as eternally living in heaven with Christ… which in our view, is more like the Terrestrial Kingdom. Salvation from death – nothing but live on this earth, everyone will be resurrected because of Christ. Salvation from sin – repentance is required for this. Christ made repentance possible through the Atonement. We believe in one step further than salvation… we believe in exaltation, which is literally living with God eternally and Christ and our families. We will become perfect in all things, and have an increase in all things including posterity. Exaltation is given to those who have accepted the fulness of the gospel and made and kept certain covenants (which we make in the temple.) Basically, there will be 3 Kingdoms, or degrees of glory, and every person will inherit a place in one of those kingdoms. There is also outer darkness, where satan and his followers

Well in some ways the Mormon version of the afterlife is pretty all-inclusive. There’s no hell in Mormonism, except for those unlucky few who go to “outer darkness,” having sinned against the Holy Ghost (whatever that means, no one seems to know). For Mormons, the spirit world is divided into paradise and spirit prison. But that’s only temporary, until the resurrection and judgment. The good guys get really good heaven, and the losers in spirit prison do their time and then get the “telestial kingdom.” (Telestial is a word Joseph Smith apparently made up himself, but it’s meant to signify the glory of the stars.) So pretty nice, huh? If you’re taking Pascal’s wager and being religious just to hedge your bets, you should skip Mormonism and be a Muslim. The consequences of being a non-believer in Islam are much worse. But unfortunately that’s not the end of the story, because if your *family* is Mormon and *you* are not, guess what—you just messed things up for everybody. Wanna know how

Pay no attention to the many idiotic answers you’ve recieved so far. Only 3 have acurately portrayed the Mormon Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). Here’s a quick link to explain it from an authorized Church website: http://mormon.org/mormonorg/eng/basic-be… http://mormon.

God will give to the good the justice they deserve by giving them the fruit from the tree of life.
