What does middle band selection mean?
Middle-band selection applies to Year 12 (CY12) applicants only as it is purely based on the ENTER. For the programs that select students on the basis of ENTER alone, a two stage process of selection occurs: Stage 1 The selection officer for the program looks at all of the applicants and identifies applicant whose ENTER indicates that they are ‘Clearly-in’. These applicants are selected. Next, they identify those whose ENTER clearly indicates they are ‘not of a suitable standard’. They are ‘Clearly-out’. Stage 2 Between these groups is another group of applicants neither clearly-in nor clearly-out. We call this group the ‘middle-band’. For this group the selection officer looks beyond the ENTER at other information such as results in prerequisite subjects before making a final decision.
