What does Maryland require to set up an LLC?
Setting up an LLC in Maryland requires two short steps: 1. Choose a name for your LLC. Your new business’s name can’t be the same as that of another business already on file with the Department of Assessments and Taxation. To see if your proposed business name is unique, you can search Maryland’s business name database. In Maryland your LLC name must contain the words “Limited Liability Company” or one of the following abbreviations: “LLC,” “LC,” “L.L.C.,” or “L.C.” 2. File the LLC formation document. In Maryland the LLC formation document is called the Articles of Organization. Once it’s prepared, you’ll file your Articles of Organization with the Department of Assessments and Taxation. The Articles of Organization should include your LLC’s name, its purpose, its address, and the name and address of your registered agent.
