What does LCMS stand for?
The letters “LCMS” stand for The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, which is the national church body in which we members, along with six thousand other churches and 2.5 million members. A bit of history–In the middle of the 1800’s a group of German immigrants settle near St. Louis, Missouri, fleeing religious persecution in their homeland. They immediately sought out like-minded believers, and formed a “Synod” (which means “to walk together”). The idea of forming a synod included the ability to do things together as a group which a single congregation could not do–send missionaries overseas, train pastors and teachers, and the like. A bit of what we believe.
