What does Latitude mean?
Latitude (as longitude) is an artificial system of individuation of sites on the Earth’s surface. In particular, latitude is the angular dstance (expressed in degrees from 0 to 90°) of a point from the Equator. If a point stands on the Equator, it has a latitude of 0°. The distance is positive towards North and negative towards South. So the North Pole has a latitude of 90° (or 90°N); South Pole has a latitude of -90° (or 90°S).
