What does Jesus is Lord mean?
Our first and most important membership commitment is “Do you commit your life to Jesus is Lord?”* All our other commitments are consequenses of this primary one. Romans 10:9 says “If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Affirming Jesus is Lord is central to our salvation. Saying “Jesus is Lord” has two basic types of meaning. One is our relationship to Jesus; the other is who Jesus really is. One way I sum up the two meanings is: Jesus is my master. Jesus is Yahweh God. How we relate to Jesus should be the consequence of knowing who he is. In the Greek translation of the Bible that was used in the time of Jesus, the personal name of God, YAHWEH, was translated into Greek as (kurios), usually translated into English as Lord or Master. The Apostles and New Testament writers often quoted Old Testament passages about the LORD (YaHWeH), but made clear that they believed the passages spoke of Jesus Chr
