What Does Jager Mean?
Jager is a German term. It means hunter. Jager is also pronounced as yager. This term was used for the first time during the Enlightenment era. It is used to denote the light infantry since those times. The military police in German Bundeswehr, which is the organization responsible for the armed forces in Germany, is known as Feldjager. The Germans also have an interceptor aircraft named Jager. Jagers were first employed during the 18th century and the majority of them came from the middle class of the society and of lesser nobility. They are very skilled as riflemen and are also adept at handling accurate rifles during those times when very few people had any mechanical skill. They were excellent snipers too. They were used for reconnaissance, skirmishes and screening bodies of heavier troops. They gained a lot of recognition and prominence over the years.
