What does it mean when I turn my mac on and see a grey screen with a question mark?
Your system software is corrupted or your hard drive has crashed. To repair systems software: • Restart your computer using the system software. • Look for the hard drive icon to appear on the desktop. • If the icon does not appear, stop and call IT Help Desk at 215-400-5555. • If the icon appears, open the utilities folder, located on the CD. • Double click on disk first aid. • Click on the hard drive icon and click repair . • After the repair sequence is complete, restart your computer. NOTE: If the system utility software does not work, try another utility software. Remember to start the computer from the CD. If this does not work: • Follow the steps 1 and 2 listed above. • Double click on the hard drive icon on your desktop. • Move the system folder from the hard drive to the trash. • On the CD, double click on ‘install Mac OS’ (install whatever version of the system software you’re using). • Follow the instructions for installing the software.
