What does it mean to say that gender is socially constructed?
When we say that gender is socially constructed, we mean that it is done by people in their interactions with each other. For example – take boys play with cars. Usually it will be the case that family and friends buy toy cars for boys and not girls. Also boys will see things on tv and in books that tells them that ‘boys play with cars’. Also parents will say things without even thinking that emphasise the fact that boys like cars.
