Retirement means CRTs have been permanently removed from further transactions after being used to offset an equivalent tonne of emissions. Retirement of CRTs is necessary to ensure that the environmental benefit actually occurs. Because of this, retirement is permanent. Once a CRT is transferred into a retirement account, it cannot be reactivated and transferred again.
