What does it mean to reduce, reuse and recycle?
Reduce – Reduce means to “cut down” on items that are not needed. Before you reuse and recycle, you need to reduce. During the project we found out that 30% of people’s weekly shopping goes in the bin? If you reduce, it brings down the need to Reuse, and Recycle and saves you money! Reuse – Reuse means to “use again and again”. We found out at the Tree of Life Centre that old items can be reused rather than thrown away. If you reuse, you will reduce the need for new landfill sites. If you reuse, it will cut down the need to recycle. Recycle – Whatever you can recycle will go through a process that will make the material useable again. We researched and discovered that 80% of a vehicle could be recycled, and that 1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours! If you Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, you will reduce your general waste and the amount going to landfill sites.
