What does it mean to have a feasible research plan?
These awards are meant to enable exceptionally well-qualified candidates for the Ph.D. to complete the writing of their dissertations during the period of tenure. Preference will be given to candidates who, in the judgment of the selection committee, can realistically expect to complete the dissertation by the end of their tenure as fellows. The selection committee will be reluctant to grant a dissertation fellowship to a student who proposes to write his or her entire dissertation in a single year, unless that individual has a publication history that suggests such a fast pace is reasonable. Applicants are advised to present a timeline that covers the entire period from the point of application through the end of the prospective fellowship year, and to indicate which dissertation chapters are drafted, currently being revised, or completed.
