What does it mean to dream about water? I continuously have dreams/nightmares about drowning in tidal waves?
I agree with many of the answers already given, particularly those by Safyre and Right Guard. I have not heard about his perspective on sleep apnea, but it might have relevance—-or not; I don’t really know. I was trained in Gestalt therapy and with this approach we let the dreamer interpret the dream. The way this usually works is that you speak (to the therapist or to yourself) about the dream from your own perspective. Then, in this case, you imagine yourself as the water and talk about the dream again from the perspective of the water. That is, talk about the dream “as if you were the water.” Then, I would suggest you talk again about the dream as if you were the tidal wave. The reason I suggest this is that water might, for example, have a nurturing effect on you, while water in the form of a tidal wave might have an entirely different feeling for you. In Gestalt therapy, we say that the client created the dream and every element in the dream (you, water, the wave, etc.) is an as
What does water mean to you? What does the sea mean to you? These are your dreams; therefore only you can understand the imagery. If this was my dream – water is a symbol of emotions for me. So to be “drowning” would mean my emotions are overwhelming me. The whole dream (if I were having it) would symbolise that I am *struggling* to overcome an emotional roller-coaster ride. And as I see the sea or the ocean as a symbol of death, the dream would also symbolise that this powerful emotional turmoil I was in was killing me. But like I said, that’s MY interpretation of the dream based on what those symbols mean to me. You may have a whole other slant on water. To you, it may mean cleansing or replenishing; like having a bath or a long cool drink of water when you’re thirsty. So you really need to asses what these symbols mean to you. Then you may understand what the dream represents.
