What does it mean to be “subject matter qualified?
Persons seeking a California Multiple Subject Credential must demonstrate their knowledge of the subjects commonly taught in an elementary classroom. This demonstration of subject matter knowledge is met by an examination (the California Subject Examination for Teachers–CSET). Successful passage of the CSET must occur before you will be allowed to begin term two. This means you must take and pass the CSET prior to or during the first term.
