What does it mean to be police checked?

When you work with children and I should think foster parents you have to be police checked its just a case of the police giving you a certificate to say you have not been in trouble with the police and they have checked you its a safety thing that the wrong people can get a job of trust around children

A police check is a Criminal Records Bureau check that anyone working with children or vulnerable people has to undertake to check their criminal history. The reason she asked this is probably because as someone who is fostered she is probably classed as a vulnerable person. Her foster parents would have been CRB checked as well it’s nothing to be bothered about.

She would have been talking about a CRB check (Criminal Records Bureau). Anybody who works with children or vulnerable people would have to have a CRB check. Since your friend is fostered, her foster parents would have been checked before being allowed to foster her. Your parents don’t need to be checked in order for you to be able hold a sleepover, but your friend would need her foster parents permission to attend. Since you live with your natural parents (I assume), I would think you would not have encountered this. Your friend is not so lucky and is probably wary of adults who she doesn’t know.
