In the recently revised ISO 9000/1994 series of Standards, companies could choose which of these three standards they wanted to become registered to. To be a) ISO 9001 registered means that a company successfully completed an independent third party audit by an accredited registrar and has in place, a quality management system which complies with this standard and covers all 20 elements (unless exclusions are noted) up to and including “Design” b) ISO 9002 registered means all of the above and includes all elements up to and including Service but not “Design”) c) ISO 9003 registered means all of the above except that it includes only that a company have a documented quality system and has no requirement for Internal audits, Service or Design.
