What does it mean to apply “early decision”?
The majority of medical schools participate in the Early Decision Program (EDP) established by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Students applying Early Decision may only apply to one U.S. medical school by August 1 st (the stated deadline date for schools that participate in AMCAS) and will be notified of an admissions decision by October 1 st . Please note that we consider that date to be too late to apply. An applicant applying Early Decision cannot apply to any other medical schools until an admissions decision has been rendered. If offered admission through Early Decision, the student must accept the offer. Medical schools will defer applicants to the regular applicant pool if they are not accepted for Early Decision.
