What does it mean that the professors at Slippery Rock are unionized?

0

The faculty at Slippery Rock and at the other thirteen schools that are part of the State System of Higher Education are unionized. In practical terms what this means is that faculty members, in concert with each other, and with the administrationlocally and in Harrisburg–have an agreement to abide by a set of rules outlined in a contract. These rules have been agreed upon. Both management and the union must live by the contract. The contract is set for a period of years. When it expires, it must be replaced by a new contract. The current contract will expire on June 30th. At present, the team representing the faculty has begun to engage in very limited conversation with the team representing the administration.
