When the red LED is lit, it means that an error has occurred on the reader. This may be due to one of the following reasons: There is no card in the reader. An empty slot has been accessed — the LED will stay lit until a card is inserted in that slot. The reader can not access the card in the slot. This failure may be due causes ranging from an illegal operation by the reader to a bad PCMCIA card.
