What does it mean if I test positive for anti-HBc?
The anti-HBc test looks for an antibody that is normally present in the blood of anyone who has ever been infected with hepatitis B virus. Many people who were infected a long time ago, have recovered, and no longer have the virus in their blood will still have a positive result to the anti-HBc test. Additional testing will be done to distinguish between people who currently have the virus in their blood and those who do not.
