What does it mean by “honor thy mother and father and thy DAYS will be longers”?
I use to joke about this scripture with my children when they were going through those wonderful “teen years” telling them that as their mother I brought them into this world and with God’s blessing I could take them out. Obviously, knowing me like they did it never stirred the slightest fear or even concern in any of them and we did study this so they knew the actual meaning of this scripture. 🙂 When we remember the history of this commandment it was at a time when the children of Israel were really struggling to remain in the bosom of God. There was considerable defiance by many who were turning away from the laws that had been handed down from God to Adam and then from Noah to his sons and on to one generation after another to Moses. That was when God apparently decided they needed to be etched in stone so his people would remember them.
