What does it cost to do an engine overhaul on a cessna 182p?
When does a cessna 182 engine time out? Suggested Time Between Overhaul (TBO) is either 1500 or 2000 hours for C182s depending on the year for standard engines. If an an engine upgrade has been different, it can be different. Mine is an 1974 Cessna 182P and it is 1500 TBO. Sometime in 1976 or 1978, I think it changed to a 2000 TBO. Now those are suggested TBO. If the engine is running well, I would not overhaul it. If compressions are decent and the main bearings are ok, keep running. If the compression on one cylinder goes bad, service that particular cylinder. My engine is now at 1800+ TBO and still running. If the lots of metal is found in the oil filter or screen, it is likely time for an overhaul. If you take a cylinder off and the cam looks like it is worn down, it is time for an overhaul. From what I hear, most of the time, engines slowly lose power, but do not have catastrophic failure at high times. With new engines, there can be catastrophic failures. Sometimes this is the be
