What Does Ischemic Mean?
Ischemic the adjective form of ischemia means a blockage, obstruction or constriction of any blood vessel that leads to a decrease or reduction in the flow of blood to a bodily tissue or organ. The word Ischemic comes from the Latin word “ischaemia” which in turn was taken from the Greek word “iskhaimos” meaning a stoppage of blood. There are two types of ischemia, myocardial ischemia and symptomatic ischemia. Symptomatic ischemia is also known as angina. There some factors that make it more likely for a person to get Ischemia. These factors include hereditary factors, sex of a person, age, Smoking, cholesterol level or obesity, High blood pressure, lack of physical activity, Stress and anger etc. Ischemia greatly increases the risk of having a heart attack.
