What does haveing an overactive cerebral cortex entail???
It means your friend is throwing around brain words. Theory is that the limbic system (emotional center) is the primary part of the brain involved in dreaming, not the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex is about thinking, planning, memory, decision-making, problem solving, processing input from the body, language, and et cetera. Btw, a lot of dreaming is more about remembering which is based on where in the REM cycle you are when you wake.
Dreams are created in the “pons” area of the brain which is a primitive section of the brain stem at the bottom back of the head. It controls reflexes like breathing. Dreaming actually gives the cerebral cortex a rest. The cerebral cortex consists of the common picture of the brains squiggly part & is divided into 4 lobes. It makes up the “gray matter” of the brain. Everyone dreams, but most people don’t remember their dreams “dream amnesia”. Sometimes, the frontal lobe of the cortex is active (it is the part of the brain that is in control of visual & motor responses), you may be more prone to remember your dreams.
