What does “God Bless America” mean, exactly?

I’m 49 & remember 40 years ago singing that song in school. We pledged & sang some patriotic songs every day. We also sang “Let there be peace on earth & let it begin with me”. Or maybe one of my hippie teachers snuck that in. I felt so good when I sang those kinds of songs. We also sang “No man is an island, no man stands alone” even then I knew the songs of unity felt really good to sing & the one of us being the best as if we were alone felt really bad….I think when we say bless it usually means “positive, highest energy sent to the one blessed” but in this case it does mean something destructive. It means we are torn from the rest of he world. In healing become separate is what we set out to heal (like a cut finger, when it is healed it has come together) This song separates us as if we are wanting one side of a cut to do well but not the other side of the of it & that is not possible we only have good when we we have togetherness, wholeness, unity, co-operation….GBA sounds goo
