What does GIS mean?
GIS is an acronym that stands for Geographic Information Systems, which is a computer system that captures, stores, analyzes, and presents data that are linked to a location on the earth. A GIS typically includes mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS, IDRISI, ERDAS Imagine) and can be used to create maps, to conduct scientific analysis, and for logistics purposes. AGIC uses GIS software daily to support the U.S. Antarctic Program.
