What does formaldehyde taste like?

Formaldehyde is actually a gas so it would have no taste. It is readily soluble in water, however, and is then known as formalin, which is what preserves bodies. From what I just found out, you may not be able to taste formalin, because it knocks out taste buds in some fish…. “Exposure of taste buds to potassium permanganate and formalin suppresses the gustatory neural response in the Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus)” although I also found that formalin added to lamb drinking formula was often rejected by the lambs because of the taste, so it must be unpleasant. http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/…/99-019.htm In other words, I wouldn’t try drinking it….sounds a bit nasty.
