What Does Flagellum Mean?

0

Flagellum is a long projection more like a whip which is composed of microtubules. They help in the propulsion of cells and other organisms in a whip like motion. However in the eukaryotes the flagellum normally move with a motion that is very much ‘S’ like and they are surrounded by a cell membrane. In the case of Prokaryotes, they have more than one flagellum which is used for their locomotion. The flagellum is always outside the cell membrane and is visible with the aid of an electron microscope. These structures of flagella are not at all related to the flagella of eukaryotes.
