As the market becomes increasingly global, my firm belief is that Europe will only be able to compete with the rest of the world by being creative and innovative. Coming up with new, more efficient and greener production methods and working on safer and more effective drugs for patients will allows us to stay a driving force in the global market. What challenges are the European pharmaceutical industries facing? As stated before, I think the main challenge will be the further globalization. The pharmaceutical industry and research in Asian countries, like South Korea and India, is evolving quite fast and is picking up with innovation in Europe and the US. I would not be surprised if one of the next blockbuster drugs would come from one of those emerging economies. This means that biotech and pharma companies in Europe not only have to look at the US, but also at those new players.
