What Does Entity Mean?
Entity is defined as something that exists. It is something that is something that is inferred or known. It is something which may be animate or inanimate which has a separate and distinct existence. However an entity may not necessarily be something which has a tangible material existence. It is regarded as a thing of existence or significance and may be conceptual or real. For example even legal fictions and abstractions are regarded as entities. Additionally an entity is often considered to be a set which contains several subsets. In Philosophy for example such entities are considered abstract objects. In legal jargon an entity is anything able to bear legal obligations and rights. Such a person will therefore be a ‘legal entity’. The term entity is also associated with beings, objects, individuals, people, polity and resources.
