What does ECDL mean?
It stands for European Computer Driving Licence. This is a set of standards established by the European Union to teach common desktop and laptop skills and usages. There are seven modules which take you from the basics of mouse, keyboard, opening and closing files and applications through to standard application package usage, such as lessons on how to use word processing and slide presentation applications. They don’t cover computer science algorithms, programming languages or hardware repair. They do cover essential skills, however, and the ECDL is an internationally recognised certification; at the time of writing (September 2003), the ECDL syllabus has been endorsed by more than 88 countries.
