What does eating meat have to do with Good Friday??
It is not bad. It is just a small sign of respect that Catholics show for their Savior. Most food has meat, and it is very hard not to eat meat. The point of abstaining from meat is to think about Jesus and his love for us every time we try to avoid meat. People may not be able to avoid sins so easily, but avoiding meat is quite easy to do (compare to avoiding sin). It is a gesture of love and grace to our Lord. Eating meat on Friday is not bad. I think God would rather have a person eat meat while making more sacrifices or praying more on Fridays than to have him/her abstain from meat and still commit major sins and act selfishly. Also, it is much better for one to just eat meat than to go out and get a lobster or a full seafood course in order to “abstain” from meat. And lastly, by fasting/abstaining from meat, people can feel empathy for all those who are starving in the world.
