What does each security clearance level mean?
Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) (formerly Basic Check (BC)) involve a check of identity documents and employment/education referees. These checks are normally completed by the recruitment authorities or by certain Defence industry companies. A BPSS is a prerequisite for the other security clearances noted below. On top of this, there is also an Enhanced Baseline Standard (EBS) (formerly Enhanced Basic Check (EBC)). This allows supervised access to top secret material.
